World War II Movies

Starting in 1937 in Asia, and in 1939 in Europe, the world was yet again sent over the edge into full-scale war, at the whim of dictators and emperors who felt it was their destiny to take over the world.

Never in history has a war been fought on such a massive scale, from a geography, to technology, to sheer manpower. Thankfully we will probably never have to fight a war on that scale again.

More movies have been made relating to "The War" than any other. Most likely due to the sheer volume of stories and surrounding events that can be told, the classical triumph of good over evil, and the rise of the US as the world's technological superpower, culminating in the dawn of the atomic age.

As I've watched various WWII movies, from the early classics like "Flying Tigers" up through modern masterpieces like "Saving Private Ryan," and documentaries such as Ken Burns' "The War," the message is clear. These are stories about men doing what had to be done when their nation, and the world, called upon them to do it, for the greater good of everyone.
