A Year of War Movies! WMB Turns One!
Hard to believe it but WarMovieBlog.com is a year old today. It all started last holiday season when I had the opportunity to sit down and watch a number of war movies (as I am apt to do) and I had the thought. "I should share this."
So I did. I hope you've enjoyed the site and the reviews as much as I've enjoyed watching the films (well most of them!
) and sharing my opinions. Over the past year I've learned a lot about the entire genre, about some key historical moments, and the underlying themes and elements that make good war movies.
I've reviewed some of the best, and some of the worst, movies I've ever seen. A lot of which have been old favorites of mine, a lot have been films I've never heard of, but I'm glad to have seen them. It's also run the gamut from documentaries to out-and-out comedies, and everything in-between.
Yeah there's a second part to the site. Namely the war movie news aspect of it. I've tried to keep up with things. We've got some good things to look forward to in the coming year, Valkyrie, Rambo, the HBO Pacific miniseries, Pinkville....
So here's to another year of war movie reviews and news. I'm interested in any and all opinions you, the readers, have about the site. Anything I'm lacking? Stuff you don't like? Go ahead, let me have it!

Remembering Veterans Day
Today is Veterans Day in the US, and elsewhere. Some of you think of it as just another day when (maybe) you get off work, or at most when the banks are closed and your mail doesn't arrive. (Although its on Sunday this year so probably not.)Veterans Day commemorates the end of World War I, with the German signing of the Armistice which ended the war at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. Hence, November 11th.
Take some time from your busy schedule to thank the veterans around you. If nothing else, just whisper a bit of gratitude to them to yourself. For what they've done and seen and experienced, so that we're still able to experience freedom today.
If you're a veteran reading this post, my thanks go out to you. And a big 'stay safe' to our servicemen still in uniform around the world, so we can thank you in person next year.
And if you're interested, TNT is showing Saving Private Ryan tonight. I'm assuming they're doing it right and showing it unedited, although I'm unsure if it'll be commercial free or not....

Welcome to WarMovieBlog.com!!
Hi folks! Welcome to the WarMovieBlog!
Here's the deal. I'm a bit of a war movie buff, I can't resist watching them, and I figured I'd share my thoughts and experiences with the world at large.
This is also my little way of saying "Thanks" to all those US servicemen, present and past who've made it possible for me to put up a site like this. I'm not a veteran, and I'm eternally thankful to those who are for making it so I don't have to be.
So, as I watch a film or hear news about new projects, etc. I will post here. Feel free to comment and discuss.
