The Devil’s Tomb (2009)
Send a crack team of elite special forces into an underground bunker to help retrieve a top scientist from a secret project gone awry... Sounds OK, right? Well, throw in a healthy dose of Alien-style horror and some dashes of Event Horizon, Prince of Darkness, and The Exorcist, stir well, and you get The Devil's Tomb.
Unfortunately I don't think it turned out quite the way they expected. I'm going to keep this short and to the point, because quite frankly I just didn't like this one. I found it interminably dull and uninteresting, and for no other reason other than that's exactly what it was. If that makes sense.
The acting was so-so. Wesley (Ron Perlman) was actually pretty good as the scientist gone over the edge, but then he's usually good at these sort of parts. Mack (Cuba Gooding Jr.), on the other hand just seemed bored with the whole thing (and who can blame him, really.) This could have been a really tense and spooky movie, if they hadn't ruined it with the entire flashback "thing" with the Chaplin (Ray Winstone). From the beginning, I never understood what the *!@#$% the point of that whole diversion was. Well, I *think* it was supposed to lead up to Mack's "conversion" or something. And Henry Rollins was his usual annoying self as the priest Fulton, but then I've never liked Rollins. (sorry!)
Ultimately they put one too many twists into the ending, and pretty much confused and disinterested (that word again) me from the whole thing. Going with 2/5, here for The Devil's Tomb, unable to put my finger on exactly why, but if you watch it, I'm sure you'll figure it out.
