This is a great mini-series. In my opinion, it is better than the Pacific and stands up to BOB. What I loved about it was it followed the book to the point where the average viewer was left wondering why there weren't more blood and guts. The reason why your average 18-25 will probably find GK short on Saving Private Ryan moments is the Iraq war was lacking those scenes. Get over it. GK is great for showing what our volunteer army is like in its camaraderie. GK has a true feel to it. I have read enough military history books that concentrate on the soldiers to vouch for the authenticity of how the soldiers in GK act and talk.
One other thing - I fear most Americans have no concept about how imperfect our victory in Iraq was. You could compare it to the Spanish-American War - the "splendid little war". Everyone remembers Dewey and TR, but few remember we won inspite of terrible leadership and blunders. The portayal of most of the brass as incompetent and/or clueless and/or full of hubris, is sadly accurate. Just because you win easily does not mean you did not screw up a lot.
