Don't. Just, just don't.

Starship Troopers: Invasion (2012)Just don't.  I should put this in with the Worst War Movie Challenge, but that would mean I'd actually have to finish it.  I made it about 20 minutes before I just couldn't take any more.

Supposedly it would provide a much more "true to Heinlein's book" story, albeit in a computer animated fashion, still based in the Starship Troopers movie universe.  I figured, hey, I'm up for something new and interesting?  Can't be that bad, right?

What I got instead was basically an extended video game cutscene complete with some pointless computer rendered boobies and middle school bathroom humor.  I really don't know who wrote this, but they need to have their knuckles broke.

After their fourth or fifth attempt at displaying emotion via these barely animated figures, I just turned it off.  I couldn't take it any more.

Was it the medium?  Yes.  Partly.  I don't like this whole extended cutscene thing.  It's just boring.  Especially when it feels like one.  Beowulf got it right.  This did not.

Mostly it was the totally awful writing.  But after the completely juvenile "fight" scene and the "distraction tits" scene, I threw up my hands and gave up.  Really?  I mean, really?

Completely lacking of ANYTHING to do with either the book or the first movie, in my opinion (except for the opening lines, and the outer space scenes, which were actually decent CG)....    Just steer clear.  No philosophy, no Verhoeven "would you like to know more?" propagandism...  just, blech.

If I can be convinced to try again, I just might.  So tell me why, oh why, should I make another attempt to watch this?!

One Response to Starship Troopers: Invasion (2012)

I usually stay clear of those straight to DVD sequels with good reason. Sequels are iffy to begin with and if it can’t even make it to the theaters, you are forewarned. I have heard the third movie is better. I’ll let you find that out for me. I am interested in seeing the cartoon series.
