Memorial Day Weekend 2008 War Movie Schedule
As is usually the case for a Memorial Day Weekend, several cable/satellite networks will be chock full of classic war movies this coming weekend. Namely Turner Classic Movies, Fox Movie Channel, and AMC. I'm sure there are many more but these are "The Big Three."
Here's what I've found out (all times US/Eastern). I've included links to reviews here at War Movie Blog for the movies I've seen.... Looks like a full weekend. Unfortunately it looks like (yet again) TNT will not be doing their 'Saving Private Ryan' showing.... Tsk. Click Through for the full list.

Friends,
I am a 100% Disabled Veteran now, after almost fourteen years in the Big Green Machine, (Army), but now I am a broke down, dead lined, no good for nothing. I can’t hardly do anything and live in pain 24/7. Sometimes I want to throw in the towel. One way I have found to take my mind off the pain is to watch old movies. Ones that do not have cursing and using GOD’s name in vain, no sex in every other secne and the people always prayed before meals and gave GOD thanks for watching over them as they moved to a new home. The reason for writing is to ask you all about a movie Jimmy Stewart made in either the early or late 50′s. The story is about a group of Soldiers, led by Jimmy, who were blowing up the road and supplies that could not be moved as they slowly made their way into China. They did this to slow down the Jap’s who were coming behind them. The y also had a Chineese lady with them, helping to translate and such. If you all know what the name of this movie is and where I might find it, would you please send me this information? Thank you for your help and time with my request. May GOD watch over and bless everyone of you and your families, keeping you all safe and well everyday. May GOD bless your site and business and allow it to grow and prosper greatly everyday as well.

Hi, Terry. Thanks for the kind words. I agree that they just don’t make films (any!) like they used to.
I think the film you’re looking for is The Mountain Road (1960)… Here’s the IMDB entry:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054095/
(I need to get this on the list to review!
) [EDIT: NUTS! Doesn’t look like this is out on DVD yet, and VHS is out of print! ack!)
Hope things turn around soon!
