In another "I thought it would never actually happen" moment, ....  Lucasfilm has actually finished Red Tails, a heavily CGI-laden movie about the Tuskegee Airmen.  Actually I caught a brief glimpse of this trailer a few days ago, was like "eh? oh, its the Tuskegee Airmen" since I saw Cuba Gooding Jr. in it (who was also in that 1995 movie!) and moved on.  How wrong I was.

Of course those of us who religiously watched news websites from '97-'99 when the Star Wars prequel trilogy first started materializing recognize the name.  First thought to be a 'code name' for the first of those, but then, no, it might actually be a real movie... blah blah....  and here it is.

I will say I am looking forward to this, if nothing else for some amazing aerial combat scenes.  Even if a few look a bit far fetched (that stall maneuver being one of them!)...  If you look carefully, though, you'll see that they've recreated, quite faithfully some of the most iconic bits of stock footage of B-17 bomber raids, and casualties.  Most obvious is the "folding wing" bit of reel that never fails to make me cringe.....

Anyway, check out the trailer, and the link to the official movie site.  Oh wait, there doesn't seem to be one.  Shame on you Lucasfilm!!

I am very leery about this one. The topic needs good treatment, but this may be two strikes and you’re out as “Tuskegee Airmen” was pretty lame. I can’t wait to see it, however.

Kinda hate the trailer – pilots abandoning bombers? That sounds like horse crap. It was more like, send our bombers in broad daylight with fighters without long range fuel tanks. The British thought we were crazy for sending bombers in during the daylight. I still want to see the film though. I don’t expect historical accuracy though, but how many war dramas do anyway?

Wow,it’s about time. But, judging strictly from the trailer, it looks like bad treatment of an important historical piece. The dialogue was lame and over clichéd, the action scenes were somewhat unrealistic (mighty tight turn even for a P-51) too. Wish Clint Eastwood wrote and directed this one!

I never thought CGI of airplanes could fall into the uncanny valley, but in the Red Tails trailer it did. Incredibly detailed, but didn’t look REAL at all.

I know *exactly* what scene you’re talking about, and yeah, its just a little much…
