Again, always the last to know. sigh. Anyway, this looks interesting, can't wait to get a chance to see it. Probably won't be til it hits disc but looking forward to it just the same. Guess this means I'll have to add a new category as well!

RESTREPO is a feature-length documentary that chronicles the deployment of a platoon of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan's Korengal Valley. The movie focuses on a remote 15-man outpost, "Restrepo," named after a platoon medic who was killed in action. It was considered one of the most dangerous postings in the U.S. military. This is an entirely experiential film: the cameras never leave the valley; there are no interviews with generals or diplomats. The only goal is to make viewers feel as if they have just been through a 90-minute deployment. This is war, full stop. The conclusions are up to you.

Terrific film. I saw it opening night. A documentary film following a group of US soldiers in the Afghan outback. Gritty, real look at modern combat and what soldiers do during the lows and the highs. Highly recommend seeing it on the big screen as the vastness of the environment helps to make the movie.
I read the book “War” and look forward to seeing the movie. It’s getting great reviews. The book is very good, but I wonder why Junger did not name the book “Restrepo” also. “War” is such a boring and deceptive title.
