Yawn, like I said there are some simply dreadful British war movies out there.  Granted there are some terrible American ones as well, but I keep coming across the duds I guess!  The Way Ahead (released in the US as The Immortal Battalion) just didn't click for me, despite the appearance of such legends as David Niven as the company Lieutenant Perry.

About the only quality I found interesting about it was the humor, which there's plenty of thank goodness.  The majority of the film follows a band of draftees in the British Army as they enter the service and are trained for action, which doesn't come until the very end.

Meanwhile they spend most of their time in training with an obnoxious sergeant (who really isn't obnoxious, just working in their best interests), and at some old bird's house chatting over tea and scones.  Yeah! Err, no.  Although most of the funny parts happen at the old lady's.

Once the action finally picks up as they ship off to North Africa, its just too late.  Then their ship is torpedoed and they've got to ditch all the gear into the sea and finally abandon ship.  Again, yeah! Um, wait.

Well, you get the drift.  I didn't really enjoy it all that much.  Your milage may vary, as usual.  Wait for it to make an appearance late night on TCM, or your local PBS station.  I wouldn't have discovered it otherwise.
